Gesaffelstein – The Operator

tn1wdoYz3hoistdogl76TgV2o1_500

“The Operator” is Released on Zone records, “purveyors of the finest cybernetic euro-pop, Parisian gentleman Gesaffelstein creates glacial slabs of impeccable ice-cold electronic noise that seem to emanate so naturally out of the wired brains of immaculately coiffured men who dream of nightimes spent prowling through cold, industrial cityscapes dressed up like Roxy Music gigolo-bots, to end up regularly congregating with likeminded replicants in dankly lit, underground dancehalls haunted by the ghosts of Kraftwerk and DAF, peering nonchalantly through vapor mists for pale faced women with sharp midnight lipstick lips and that familiar melancholy look in the eyes”, I couldn’t have put it better myself!

This track is great italo-esque electronic monster, supported by the likes of Hell, Miss Kitten and Garnier and you can see why!

Denroy Morgan – Happy feeling

tumblr_krifobE8GF1qzif7do1_500

Denroy Morgan has been recording since 1965. He has recorded many different styles of music with many different producers and many different songwriters, including more recently with the DJ ‘Luciano’. This track is his disco edge and is recognised as one of the many ‘garage’ classics. Funky and soulful with a slight reggae tinge, does exactly what it says on the tin!

Baresi edits

2m8BXUfri2yj133e0WSOfK0C_500

Here are a couple of awesome edits from our man Baresi, mixing up old party groves with some slick disco beats. If these tunes cant get the crowd dancing get out the shotgun!

First up is a edit of ‘It’s all yours’ By Starpoint from 1984, keeping all the groove that in the original and emphasising it through repetition. This one teases and teases with that synth line, then boom it all makes sense!

Second up need no more introduction than “An edit mix of Slippery People by Talking Heads and The Staple Singers…If they met in a dark alley this might be the result”

Jungle Wonz – Time Marches On

tumblr_kr1j9rnhI11qzwoooo1_500

Spent this morning recording some old vinyls and sorting through a tonne of old vinyl rips. A lot of the old Traxx ones sound pretty bad, probably because of the 2nd hand vinyl they were pressed on. Here is a heavy track from Marshall Jefferson, signature chords and piano loops. So deep it hurts. H. Dennis on the vocals on this one increases the soul factor.

“Nothing stays the same…..there’s always change……time marches on!”

Soul II Soul – Back to Life (Ultimix)

Soul II Soul is a British double award-winning Grammy act that emerged from London at the end of the 1980s . The group initially attracted attention as a sound system, playing records at house and street parties (where their clothing style – dubbed “Funki Dred” – quickly made a splash, inspiring them to start a line of clothing). Founded by Jazzie B and featuring a changing roster of other musicians – notably Nellee Hooper, Simon Law, Phillip ‘Daddae’ Harvey and Caron Wheeler – Soul II Soul’s experiments in music-making of their own resulted in the dub plate “Fairplay,” which secured them a deal with Virgin Records. They had huge hits in 1989 with the singles “Keep on Movin’” and “Back to Life (However Do You Want Me),” both from their debut album Club Classics Vol. I. These songs (both featuring Wheeler on vocals) set the tone for early 1990s mainstream dance music in the UK.

Family Stand – Ghetto Heaven (Soul II Soul remix)

The Family Stand was an American R&B band, who were active in the early 1990s. The band members were also largely responsible for creating the songs on Paula Abdul’s album Spellbound.

Ghetto heaven was their biggest hit, back in 1990, with the Soul II Soul remix being the stand out track from the release, gaining plays in every club in the world!

Big 90’s ‘Baltimore’ style beats, matched with tasty analog synths (think Massive Attack/Moby) and an era defining vocal makes this a firm fav of mine at the moment.

Pitto’s Bootleg of Feist!

This is one of the most in-demand, sought after bootlegs of the past year (not yet released), stirring up a huge fuss with rumors that it was getting a full release on cadenza in October (past), but that wasn’t really likely to happen and finally we got mailed the full 12 minute copy (not the set rip that has been floating around for months) I think we’re the first blog to get it, so count yourselves lucky.

* I’ve been slowing this down a good bit, to around 118 bpm , works a treat!

Propaganda – Dream within a dream

“A Dream Within a Dream” is a poem written by Edgar Allan Poe, first published in 1849. The poem is 24 lines, divided into two stanzas. The poem questions the way one can distinguish between reality and fantasy, asking, “Is all that we see or seem but a dream within a dream?”

Propaganda, along with The Alan Parsons project and several other musicians have used this famous poem to inspire the lyrics of their work.

His music has also had a profound effect on the history of hip hop music, having been sampled time and time again his dark and eerie tracks like Nautilus helped inspire an entire genre of dark driving hiphop in the late 80’s and early 90’s. Feelmybicep Presents Krysko – A Modest Medley

krysko_live_at_the_warehouse_project_manchester

“Of Ukranian descent but born & bred in Yorkshire, England. Krysko was brought up on a musical diet of funk, soul, jazz and of course house music. Mainly due to his uncles influence who was a player in the early London house/techno scene. Having been dj’ing for nearly 17 years he’s developed taste in a wide spectrum of musical styles.”

We wanted to give those not fortunate enough to experience one of his sets a chance to hear some of the magic, with this recently recorded live set. During our years in Manchester we were all fortunate to catch Krysko warming up for the likes of Frankie Knuckles, Jeff Mills and Thro Parrish to name a few- helping us collectively grow our love for all things ‘HOUSE’.  As you can hear from this mix his style cant be pigeonholed, ranging from funk, deep Detroit house to sleazy dark acidic disco. Check him out at the warehouse project if you are in Manchester.

We love this mix, thanks Krysko.

Project KOMAKINO – Syndrome (Tom Furse Remix)

yX6zGzblthx9sga62P9SHYOGo1_500

You may not know the name ‘Tom Furse‘, but you are bound to be familiar with his productions. He is more commonly known as keyboard wizard from The Horrors, responsible for the awesome remix of ‘Heartbreak – Akin to dancing, released on Dissident records a couple of months back. This again is simply outstanding, the kinda shit a lovechild between Wolfgang Flür and Ian Curtis would be thinking up. Post punk industrial disco, CBS will be loving this, we are!

Fleetwood Mac – Dreams (Far Away Edit)

dream_anatomy

Following up from our last post on Tyler Fedchuck’s remix of Zanadu remix, here’s a sympathetic edit done under the now defunct Far Away guise, which was also super popular night that played the leftest of beats. Nothing needs said for the amazing original and this is really a pure DJ edit, stretching things out a little, adding a bit of beef here and there and not fucking with anything that doesnt need fucking with.

We’ve also included a rather tasty mix by Tyler from his heroic RadioZero show, were Bicep will be helping out on for the next few weeks, every Friday. Check it.

Cerrone – Supernature (Kevin Saunderson edit)

h12aVvjIpq8hsqe9mtoKAMYpo1_500

Together with Giorgio Moroder Jean-Marc Cerrone is seen as Europe’s most important contribution of the Disco-Sound. ‘Supernature’ was one of his biggest hits and has been re-hashed and edited by a tonne of artists since it’s first release in 77′. This track is a weird one, maybe it has been wrongly tagged in my library- I dono! Its defo not Kevin Saunderson remix that was just released on the History Elevate CD but it could possibly be an edit that was released in 96′.  Cant find any previews online of this, so I cant tell. Some awesome key action and extra breakdowns but this could possibly be an extended mix. If anyone can shed light on this I would be grateful- if not sit back and enjoy.

The Coach House Rythm Section – Timewarp

WI 60's Xmas dinner

Bit of a classic here, to put it mildly, from the man Eddy Grant. Released in ‘77 this is a timeless electronic weapon. It blends beautifully between the old house sound and all out electro disco action. Complete with acidic tripped out synth that melts into an amazing slow,  burning atmosphere. Not to mention the chanting vocal, the type of chant you would expect from a jolly troup of W.I members around christmas.
