Released on the NYC label run by The Rapture and James Friedman, Mugwump’s new EP is fusing Italo, EBM, acid-house, techno, disco, dub and breaks & gets big love from the bicep…We cant put it much better than this;
“There is a very very special kind of great records. rare as hell. they’re the ones that you have in your box but that blow your mind when someone more clever than you are plays it at the right moment. that’s exactly what “Congregation of discalced clerks” did for me. I had it for ages, Michael Mayer played it and I rushed like an idiot to ask him what this bomb was… This is a big compliment for the record (who likes obvious hits ? not me) and a kick in the arse for myself, especially that it exactly fits into what I love : old school gone now, disco gone trance, fearless of a hint of cheese, slow and funky as fuck. In one word: brilliant… from the old school breakbeat vibe, the light acid tint, and above all, a massive f***k you to those who takes themselves, and their music, too seriously. Same thing with “Concrete Skankin”, some will hear it a noisy mess, I hear someone who used to go out at the Boccaccio and has a musical culture that goes a bit beyond the monthly Beatport chart. Yes, you may as well open your mind and ears, this tells you that the good times may be back” Ivan Smagghe
