Feel my Bicep

The Peech Boys, a group that Larry Levan formed and was part of (and who became the New York Citi Peech Boys when the Beach Boys threatened a lawsuit due to the similar sound of the name). With a strong gospel tinge in the vocal arrangements and driven by a tinkling piano, the latter song is a quintessential example of the deejay’s soulful aesthetic. One of the first dance releases to incorporate a dub influence and an appended vocal-only edit, when it was finally released, much of the song’s momentum had been lost and it stalled in the lower reaches of the charts. Finally…..after……what ……seemed …….like……ages…..DFA finally released the 45:33, mysterious remix package! For me 45:33 was LCD Soundsystem’s finest work, in particular i loved part 1 and 2. “if it’s not broke, don’t fix it” came to mind when I actually heard this was going to come out, so I was quite apprehensive about hearing it. The first remix on the pack from Runaway actually blew me away, taking their deep disco chugger style to a new level, its outstanding. Initially I was just going to post this tune, but cant, the whole EP is great- each track for different reasons. As Phonica put it

“Eight killer remixes from a variety of producers that pretty much cover the whole spectrum of 4/4 music. Enter Ricardo or well Richard Wolfsdorf  as he is also know by…. Ricardo Villalobos – MDMA is an all-time favorite of ours, but we present you with Ricardo’s original take on things which was released in 1996, under the Wolfsdorf alias. The track more rough and ready than the later- but packs an uber punch…Not many labels these days are taking risks at the moment and putting out all this finly polished middle of the road bland tech-tribe-NO, and we are gonna overlook the next Ricardo for that reason.

A comment on discogs says “The track MDMA is, I think, one of the best climax tunes of all time, acid-like, schizophrenic, very original and totally rocking progressive punk-techno. Its hard to describe this track in words, you got to hear and feel this track on the dancefloor, LOUD!!.”

An original of this record currently fetches 300 Euro and this is a near perfect copy, so ENJOY!

Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, a British band in ze 80s(79-88) that make some swish synth pop. Talking Loud and Clear is a great track to start on considering we are yet to put any OMD up, will have to sort this out with some more classics. Word of advice, this tune doesn’t always go down to well- (when i have played it out that is), have seen Tiefschwarz play this on a couple of occasions as their “quirky” last tune!

I’ve confessed my love for Derrik May many times before, but once again I dust off a classic like this 1988 12″. This is a live cut of the tune, there are a tonne of remixes floating  about which are all pretty sweet. It was on the B side of the ‘nude photo’ track i posted a while ago. So amazing thanks to Darshan Jesrani form Metro Area for reminding me how good this tune is!

This 12″ came out on Modular last year and seems to be sold out, think it was a limited edition press. after purchasing a while back I didn’t realise it was Ladyhawke until recently, now that this tune is getting rinsed in the mainstream- either way this remix is a cool take on things. Very cool track reminiscent of some of the stuff dial has put out over the last couple of years, possibly a source of inspiration perhaps…Below is a funny video of Pantha du Prince and Efdemin ‘larking’ about behind the decks to this tune. This track was actually out in 2001, it came to our attention through, the now legendary, ‘Taka Taka’ mix by Ricardo  Villalobos two years later in 2003- I recommend checking out that mix if you haven’t already, pretty outstanding.

Cool Italo mega mix here, only 6 mins long and 320kbps. Really good one to drop if you want to keep the crowd entertained as sometimes an 8 minute trumpet breakdown doesn’t go down to well- we found out the hard way. “keep it Spicy!”…Its all pretty Gay( in the happy sense) and upbeat, not that kind of spacey Italo I would say more like “Rainbow Italo”. Some really nice vocals on some of the tracks in the mix also.  you can pick up the vinyl titled Fancy – Turbo Dancer Remix (Part I), I think, it is unmixed but includes all the same tracks.
