Trey Lorenz – Photograph of Mary (Masters at Work dub)

Let’s stoke the ole’ fire a little with another great remix from MAW,….here they’ve totally flipped Trey Lorenz’s slow and emotional ‘Photographs of Mary’ into an upbeat soulful house bomb, all to easily…. Rolling beats & shuffling snares, classic 90’s kipper!

Soul II Soul – Back to Life (Ultimix)

Soul II Soul is a British double award-winning Grammy act that emerged from London at the end of the 1980s . The group initially attracted attention as a sound system, playing records at house and street parties (where their clothing style – dubbed “Funki Dred” – quickly made a splash, inspiring them to start a line of clothing). Founded by Jazzie B and featuring a changing roster of other musicians – notably Nellee Hooper, Simon Law, Phillip ‘Daddae’ Harvey and Caron Wheeler – Soul II Soul’s experiments in music-making of their own resulted in the dub plate “Fairplay,” which secured them a deal with Virgin Records. They had huge hits in 1989 with the singles “Keep on Movin’” and “Back to Life (However Do You Want Me),” both from their debut album Club Classics Vol. I. These songs (both featuring Wheeler on vocals) set the tone for early 1990s mainstream dance music in the UK.

Family Stand – Ghetto Heaven (Soul II Soul remix)

The Family Stand was an American R&B band, who were active in the early 1990s. The band members were also largely responsible for creating the songs on Paula Abdul’s album Spellbound.

Ghetto heaven was their biggest hit, back in 1990, with the Soul II Soul remix being the stand out track from the release, gaining plays in every club in the world!

Big 90’s ‘Baltimore’ style beats, matched with tasty analog synths (think Massive Attack/Moby) and an era defining vocal makes this a firm fav of mine at the moment.

Jinny – I need your love

When it breaks down to just the drums…..Just you try and tell me you don’t wish you were in a 90s warehouse rave, complete with buzz cut and white puffer jacket.

Richard Wolfsdorf – Mdma

Enter Ricardo or well Richard Wolfsdorf  as he is also know by…. Ricardo Villalobos – MDMA is an all-time favorite of ours, but we present you with Ricardo’s original take on things which was released in 1996, under the Wolfsdorf alias. The track more rough and ready than the later- but packs an uber punch…Not many labels these days are taking risks at the moment and putting out all this finly polished middle of the road bland tech-tribe-NO, and we are gonna overlook the next Ricardo for that reason.

A comment on discogs says “The track MDMA is, I think, one of the best climax tunes of all time, acid-like, schizophrenic, very original and totally rocking progressive punk-techno. Its hard to describe this track in words, you got to hear and feel this track on the dancefloor, LOUD!!.”

An original of this record currently fetches 300 Euro and this is a near perfect copy, so ENJOY!

Model 500 -Vessels In Distress

witkin42

A few friends have criticised our lack of techno, so here is a absolute banger. A tune that makes me think of Tresor, written by Juan Atkins & Martin Bonds back in the 90’s. You can hear influences from Morodor’s sick italo-disco Basslines to dark depeche mode/ new order Synthpop- all whipped into a melting pot of Techno. A true Detroit classic!

Laurent Garnier – Crispy Bacon

crispy_bacon_1

This classic has kept me going all day, one of the first vinyls I bought, but didn’t even play it until I heard Garnier play it Live a few weeks after. There is something about it which makes you want to do the techno viking- on fast forward. All the talk of The Man with the red face but this tune has a special place in my heart, up there with my favorite techno tunes.

Daniel Wang – Like Some Dream I Can’t Stop Dreaming

asort-roller_skate_girl

An all time favourite record, I first heard this on an old Detroit radio show, Deep Space Radio (which will be featured soon) which is truely great. This is a full on deep Detroit disco workout with one of the most amazing hypnotic vocals ever (sampling Sleeque’s “One For The Money”).

Moodymann – I Can’t Kick This Feeling When It Hits

oldindianwoman

Moodymann the true master of sampling (apart from all those old school hip hop dudes…). This is a cracking tune, right up Biceps beef street. Nice wee deep rolling muscle pumper with another awesome repetitive vocal sampled from Chic’s ‘I Want Your Love’, infectious.

Nightcrawlers – Push the feeling (Bicep edit)

Very slight edit of the loopy 90’s house classic, Little bit of 909 beefing and extended it out a bit for a good long mix. 320 kbps, Enjoy.

The BlueBoy – Remember Me (Sure Is Pure 7inch)

A classic tune from the 90s, if this one doesn’t get the crowd up to dance piss on the mixer.

“Blue Boy is a pseudonym for the Scottish DJ, Alexis ‘Lex’ Blackmore. He is best known for “Remember Me”, an international dance hit in 1997. Blackmore first worked as a DJ in Glasgow and London, touring with the British techno outfit The Shamen in 1992. ”

Sasha – Mongoose

Normally I would automatically bypass this tune, as I am not a big fan of Sasha, which I did do when it was released back in 2007 as I even had the EP on my computer but never listened to it. After hearing this bomb tune in Todd Terje’s future classics mix I was amazed to find out that it was Sasha and I have had it on my computer nearly 2 years. I dont think this is enought to convert me to a Sasha fanboy but at least I can say I like this!
