Omar S aka Alex Smith – Here with me (feat Divinti)

A recent interview, when asked about how his fabric mix had been recieved…..said:

Did you read the shit people are saying already about the Fabric Mix? A few assholes are talking about “Oh, Omar-S. He did the same thing as Ricardo Vi-vi–….” whatever the fuck he’s called. I don’t even know who Ricardo Willalobo is. I ain’t start hearing his name till like a year ago. Who the fuck is that? So how would I know what he did for Fabric? I don’t even know how to say his last name, why would I bite off of him?

Here’s some classic Omar s, twisted acid sounds matched with an old school Chicago bassline and an enticing soulful vocal. Enjoy!

Luciano – Mi nombre es Juan Pachanga (Esteban Bravo remix)

The thing i really love about this track (well this recording) is how truly rough and ready it is, little double beats here and there, bass cutting it out and back, hat pitch frequency moving up and down….it really captures the raw live vibe, you really feel as if someone is just twiddling with knobs (which they are)…..Its got a great tough dark beat and i’ve seen this totally destroy Fabric before. Enjoy.

Den Haan – Russian boat commander

You may be familiar with some of the previous Den Haan stuff we have posted over the last couple of months. If not, Den Haan are firm favorites of Glasgow’s long-running Sub club Haunt Optimo Espacio, as well as successfully working up a sweat at Fabric and Disco Bloodbath with their own brand of electrifying macho-disco ouvre. All the dark essence of High NRG Italo and sleazy cosmic- these guys are defo doing something unique and we love it!

Had a listen to the old Michael Mayer fabric CD over the weekend, I’m sorry but Resident Advisor were wrong on this one, its still one of my favourites in the series! with Mayer as always mixing up his unique blend of dark disco infused techno, delivering bomb after bomb! This tune is an Industrial-synth-laden-battle-weapon of a tune…makes you stomp like a techno Viking!

Word on the street Ricardo dropped this in Fabric the other night, such a banging tune which used to get played across the board. Great to see the jack make a comeback.

Ricardo Villalobos @ fabric

ricardo

Not the best start when you turn up at 5 to be met by a big ass que…then when you get it in its way too rammed by the time you get to room one- you’ve already elbowed 10 pairs of sunglasses of the numerous Italians…  so checked out room 3 which was absolutely rockin…after an hour or so i braved it back to room 1- by this stage it had cleared up and so it began. All in all really good night here are a couple of highlights of his set/ or as close as i could get!

UNKNOWN ARTIST – SAM / MES / TOR

Tasty summer samba vibe from the RAL label, …… as ever….. every output they have had great character, the link being that different underground techno artists under the ”unknown artist” name produce pumpin’ tribal tracks using samples from old  world music, folk and even pop tracks
Great tracks which can add a little something special to a mix. Played by everyone from the Ricardo and Luciano to Rhadoo and the Fabric residents.

Highly sought after, very limited press, 320, must have!

Data- Blow

DATA Is a british synthpopband that released three original albums; “Opera Electronica” in 1981, “2-Time” in 1983 and “Elegant Machinery” in 1985. A compilation called “Accumulator” was released in 1995 by Eternity Records containing the complete albums “2-Time” and “Elegant Machinery,” and the track “Fallout” from their first album “Opera Electronica.” Data was inspired by machinist and bauhaus movements and of their contemporary cabaret music of the 20s and 30s. Lyrically they were satirical for their first two albums, turning somewhat more romantic/light entertainment/dance to their last.

Frontman Georg Kajanus (originally Hultgren, of norwegian ancestry) previously played in angloscandinavian electro-rock band Eclecticon and as keyboardist/composer in the 70s rockband Sailor. In the late 90s Georg returned to Sailor for several live performances. Other members of Data were the sisters Frankie & Phil Boulter, of who only Frankie remained in the band for the last album Elegant Machinery.

This tune was included in Metro Area’s fabric cd and also on DJ Harvey’s recent Beats in Sapce mix!

Grace Jones- I’ve Seen That Face Before (Libertango)

The spook of classic Specials tune Ghost-town rises out echoing throu every dark corner of the club, full of the Grace Jones 80s vibe with a hint of Parisian character.

If you like Italo disco, Detroit techno, jacking house, Chicago acid I recommend you go see Villalobos no one can predict the level of loony-ness his set will bring.

Alter Ego – Blank

Brilliant builder tune, runs nicely through tunes, with a couple of awesome drum break-downs and a heavy baseline.

Louie Austen- Hoping

A bit of a cheesy house offering…as the lyrics go …”jack me jack me jack me till I scream”

Damian Schwartz Guti- Salson

Amazing piano infussed minimal house
