Ms. Sharon Ridley – Changin’ [Bootleg Re-edit]

club09_g

Have been holding these for a while, but thought it would be fitting to post them on remembrance day.  There was no official 12″ release but the song found it’s way onto many important dj playlists especially those who embraced the sleaze, morning music genre such as Larry Levan, Lary Sanders. Here are some remasters straight from the Bootlegs.

Also here is a fantastic Larry Levan mix from 1985, notice the diverse playlist and the unique cutting of tracks a rare feat these days through djs who merely beat-match and rarly experiment on vinyl without ’stabilisers’ like serato or traktor. The art of a dj is slowly die-ing out, anyone can beatmatch,  only  few can select or were born with two 1210’s as hands like Levan!

New York Citi Peech Boys – Don’t Make Me Wait

The Peech Boys, a group that Larry Levan formed and was part of (and who became the New York Citi Peech Boys when the Beach Boys threatened a lawsuit due to the similar sound of the name). With a strong gospel tinge in the vocal arrangements and driven by a tinkling piano, the latter song is a quintessential example of the deejay’s soulful aesthetic. One of the first dance releases to incorporate a dub influence and an appended vocal-only edit, when it was finally released, much of the song’s momentum had been lost and it stalled in the lower reaches of the charts. Re released as the all too famous ‘Don’t make me Jack’ by the wonderfull Paris Grey, we stuck up back in the early days Here.
