Sandee – Notice Me

Some old school house here, been liking this sound recently, perhaps a bit grimier than this but all the same this is a classic. Sandee was in one of the original girl bands and basically started all that shite, but through no fault of her own,  the music was popular and they were a cross over success. Originally released in 1988, Kenny Dope did a version of it in 1990, which is your typical classic house fodder, some nice sounds in it too. The original is a cool jazzy wee track,  and the bass carries it through the whole way (almost). She died recently, so here’s to her memory.x

Thomas Bangalter – Extra Dry

Extra dry cured bacon beats from one of the men behind Daft Punk. Nasty old school French techno that woulda been right up Carl cox’s street back na’ day!
This tune actually also featured in the film ‘Irreversible’ mentioned earlier this week.

Marcello Napoletano – A prescription of love

00-marcello_napoletano-a_prescription_of_love-(math028)-cover

Nice new jacker courtesy of Marcello Napoletano, real old school Detroit vibe- keeping it real with groove, chilling strings and plenty of open 909s . Think Stimming meets Derrick May, for a rough idea! The full EP features 5 tracks each bringing something new to the equation, pretty essential selection for the record bag.

Lisa Lisa and the Cult Jam – Let the beat hit ‘em (ultimix)

Some soulful freestyle breakin’ action in the form of Ultimix’s version of ‘Let the beat hit ‘em’. Cheesey vocals, big stabs and even bigger drums, this is proper early 90’s block party tackle.

Dj Rolando – Knights of the Jaguar

The two tracks that really got me hooked on techno, back in 2000 were Dj Rolando – Jaguar and Jeff Mills – The Bells. I heard them both approx 10 mins apart early on in a Laurent Garnier mix, I had downloaded off napster. I hadn’t really heard anything like it before and I was blown away by this driving hypnotic sound. I still enjoy listening back at some of my old favourites, although I do find them a little too hard these days.

MR SLIFF (aka Adam Beyer) – THE RIFF

In keeping with the recent techno classics post, I’ve dug out Mr Sliff (aka Adam beyer) – The Riff. This used to be an absolute bomb, which finished off many a night of rumbling techno quite nicely. Few years on and it still sounds awesome. Great material that’ll bring a smile to many faces.

DEEP EARLY HOURS GEM!

Henrik B – logos

I love looking through the old back catalogues of  big techno labels and producers, speedy j, adam beyer etc. The reason is, amidst all the hammer-smashing mayhem every so often you find a real real gem,…..(some of your may remember Mr Sliff – The Riff)……..slow them down a bit and you can get dreamy detroit groovers that’ll fit into, and more importantly, light up any set. Henrik B’s ”logos” and ”One point O” are two of these finds. Very Very Very hard to get in Mp3 as it was a limited vinyl press only and havn’t appeared on many high profile mixes. Count yourselves lucky and enlightened.

Barıs K- Kebab Shop Disco

This week I have been listening to a few old “beats in space” podcasts and found a guilty pleasure. He goes by the name of Baris K.

Baris K is a Turkish DJ with influences ranging from 70’s Turkish cosmic disco music, with prevalent psychedelic & Anatolian Rock.

I am 90% sure you have probably heard his music in a Turkish kebab shop somewhere in the East end. This record come with a word of warning, like many office emails you get NSFW, this one is kinda NSOL (not.safe.out.loud.). Anyway I have managed to hunt down a mix by him and also a link to what has to be a Turkish porn tune, but Baris K we love you!
