Phoreski- Slow me down

l_e734281a6b8579033ae109efb4ac7742

Phoreski join Rare Wiri with two excellent tracks from the vaults of the Fat Fuk Studio. Slow me down is a ground breaking killer tune, with energetic basslines and spacey synths. Air Shark is dark apocalyptic track all fans of John Carpenter will love. It seems like Rare Wiri did it again!

Whos Who – Hypno Dance

Cool key changing disco funk that should hit the spot, with some Bollywood vibes running through for good measure.

Tiga – Montreal Mix Sessions Vol. 5 – Mixed Emotions

Spin back 9 years to Febuary 2001 and a new DJ “Tiga” breaking onto the Techno scene with outstanding remixes with likes of Adam Beyer and Linda Lamb,  collaborations that would be unheard of today. Where Beyer and the Techno pioneers stayed on their path Tiga has been mixing up the genres redefining a new Electroclash genre with his subsequent releases- Tiga still seems to be diving opinion with his unique style to this day. Either way this is a brilliant mix CD,that broke him onto the scene so its defiantly worth a listen!!!

“Making this CD was very hard, and took a lot out of me. While the music is not my own, the process of putting it all together is my craft. And so the thousands of records get narrowed down, and the world of possibilities get edited down to a few photos…and out of this overwhelming and vast sea of stimulus and infinite sources, finite choices are made…small, personal and often timid choices that ultimately help define who you are as an artist, and are all you really have. So you end up with this little window into what we felt, listened to, and were inspired by in October of 2000. This is the process. It is a process that never ends, just finds temporary expression, as a new wave of inspiration floods in. This process would never be the same without my friends, partners and family. Thanks to all the labels and artists, who both inspired and enabled this entire project!”

Prosumer

Achim Brandenburg is a bit of a Chicago house and Detroit techno buff, an area of expertise he first picked up as a record buyer for Hard Wax in his hometown of Saarbruecken. That was during the heyday of soulful house labels such as Prescription, and it’s a sound which still can be heard in Prosumer’s sets today. “My heart is beating for the early Chicago/Detroit sound and for music that feels similar and transports this feeling into today,” explains Achim. Slowly the consumer turned into Prosumer, issuing his first record on 240 Volt in 2004.

A year later came ‘The Craze’ on Playhouse, then vocal duties on Sebo K’s ‘Moved’, both of which became bona fide hits, melding house stabs with soulful vocals. Achim’s latest record is a collaboration with producer Murat Tepeli, with whom he also performs live, for Ostgun Ton, the record arm of Berlin’s Berghain/Panoramabar complex, where Achim is now a resident DJ.

“Whatever I do has got to be real,” says Achim about his DJing. “If a record doesn’t move me emotionally or physically, I won’t play it out. I have to feel the music and I’m always trying to share my feelings with the crowd on the floor. If everything goes down well, there’s an exchange going on. I try to keep a balance between pushing people’s buttons and surprising them. I’m sharing my inner emotions. And dance music has got to be horny.”

MR SLIFF (aka Adam Beyer) – THE RIFF

In keeping with the recent techno classics post, I’ve dug out Mr Sliff (aka Adam beyer) – The Riff. This used to be an absolute bomb, which finished off many a night of rumbling techno quite nicely. Few years on and it still sounds awesome. Great material that’ll bring a smile to many faces.

Sasha – Mongoose

Normally I would automatically bypass this tune, as I am not a big fan of Sasha, which I did do when it was released back in 2007 as I even had the EP on my computer but never listened to it. After hearing this bomb tune in Todd Terje’s future classics mix I was amazed to find out that it was Sasha and I have had it on my computer nearly 2 years. I dont think this is enought to convert me to a Sasha fanboy but at least I can say I like this!

Lovelock- Burning Feeling

spotted this tune on Aeroplane’s top 10 tunes, glitchy- techno influenced disco,  with twisting italo style vocals and power synths. This is heavy disco!

Its out on Kompact soon!

Jackpot- uno dos tres

Named one of dance music’s best kept secrets, in 1983 Italian experimental sound artist Marco Donatello (suffered an early death due to excessive amounts of partying)  and Swedish synth pioneer Gleen Asp made recordings together. Their ambition was to do sound to an art project, but the result was a cocktail of italo-esque melodies, ebm rhythms, and filmic arpeggios. Story has it, the music was produced as an excuse to press records off a narcotic solution in order to smuggle drugs and that a mishap during the operation explains why we haven’t heard any of these tracks untill now. This is a  document of unknown, yet truly unique Swedish dance music. First track features the simpe lines “Uno, Dos, Tres, Quatro/Ein, Zwei, Drei, Fier” spread out across the track, not unlike many good old detroit and chicago acts such as Idol Makings “Un, Deux, Trois” from the early 90ies, however with a pumped up rhythm section not too far from the legendary A Number of Names “Shari Vari” from 81.

Ilija Rudman – Dance Disorder (Faze Action Remix)

From Phonica

“After a series of releases on labels Rong, Infant and Deep Freeze, Bearfunk were quick to grab “Disco Disorder” and wasted no time in asking their studio neighbours Faze Action to step up. Their synth-bass, low slung and sleazy remix, with a dose of their trademark strings hits the spot. This sits snuggly with Ilijas original which mixes in real bass and guitar with his analog heavy funk-laden grooves.”

Depeche Mode- Enjoy the slience (Ewan Pearson mix)

Whats with all these remixes in the last few years? is any tune safe from the remix hammer? Obviously some remixes are brilliant, others are not- I eventully blocked out the memory from a remix of “joy division – love will tear us apart”, so I wont speak of it again.

If I had one tune that I could save from the remix I Would have said “Enjoy the Silence” … the vocals and synths are so epic that it would sound out of place on any other. Lucky enough Ewan pearson is on hand, he seems to use his midas touch and managing to somehow turn this Anthem into an acid house banger!!

Guy Gerber- Timing

I always thought Guy Gerber had potential, but a lot of his releases have been mediocre to say the least, despite releasing on cocoon regularly (although generally recent cocoon is pish)
However his new 12″ ‘Timing’ is pretty cool, with its old analog style synth line and hypnotic yet simple percussion its certainly one that could fit into many a set in the later hours of the morning.
