Rufus & Chaka Khan – Ain’t Nobody (Frankie Knuckles Hallucinogenic Dub)

In keeping with recent posts, we’re pleased to present a delightfully smooth remix from none other than ole’ frank knuckles, stamping his own chicago warehouse style firmly on the Chaka Khan classic, it’s a dub so the vocal appears late on, just teasing us. Great stuff!

Madonna – Erotica (MAW bass hit mix)

This is an absolute cracker, a very rare stripped back ‘Masters at Work’ dub, which they knocked out along side their more mainstream mixes, (although it only appeared on some of the selected maxi releases, but not the singles, I actually picked this up in an antique shop in Dubai of all the places!) These ‘bass hit’ dubs crop up quite a lot when you comb through the MAW discography and they are always winners,  very deep and twisted, usually cutting everything right back down to the bones. It’s crazy to think this was from back in 1992, rivals any of this minimal tosh that floats about now! Enjoy!

Hardrive – Just Believe (Little Louie Vega & Tony Humphries Extended Mix)

Been digging up lots of early 90’s house, got a real nice collection going on, here’s the first of many! It’s a cheeky little hypnotic house remake from Little Louie and Big T! Harddrive, himself is also known as Luis Fernando Vager and was one of the early house hoods droppin’ his slugs on legendary Strictly Rhythm! Back in around 93′ was a golden age for house, people like MAW were throwing out 4/5 versions of every remix, and remixing everything,  and the snares just rolled around that time.

The Beatles – Tomorrow Never Knows (Leftside Wobble edit)

The boys over at Leftside wobble really have done justice to this Beatles classic! A feat not to be laughed at, this was a daring move, tackling the Beatles. But they’ve done a great job, also using the break from Sgt Pepper (the reprise version) as the underlaying backbone of the track. The big long intro is almost demented in character with wailing animal like vocal squels and rolling drums accompanied with trippy guitar stabs before the vocal seals the deal! Awesome.

Motor City Blues

Keeping things deep I’ve got two cracking beautiful soulful house reworks from Motor City Drum Ensemble, who time and time again hit the nail on the head with his signature old school drum patterns and thoughtful pastiche keys.

Over the past few years MCDE has really soared from their humble beginnings to leading the pack with their (previously posted) Raw Cut’s serious getting by absolutely everyone!

Dj Hell – The Angst (Henrik Schwarz remix)

This is a smoldering killer of a remix, would we expect anything less from Schwarz? It has a beautiful dark analog almost ‘new-age’ feel when Henrik really lets the track rip, the perfect opening track to a later set! I’m afraid this is a relatively new remix and we wanna respect the artists, so you’ll have to pick it up from all the usuals! Enjoy

Luciano – Mi nombre es Juan Pachanga (Esteban Bravo remix)

The thing i really love about this track (well this recording) is how truly rough and ready it is, little double beats here and there, bass cutting it out and back, hat pitch frequency moving up and down….it really captures the raw live vibe, you really feel as if someone is just twiddling with knobs (which they are)…..Its got a great tough dark beat and i’ve seen this totally destroy Fabric before. Enjoy.

Miss Kitten – Requiem for a hit (Abe Duque remix)

Slimey acid madness here in the form of Abe Duque’s classic remix of Miss Kitten’s classic – Requiem for a hit. I remember hearing this every week in the bar of Belfast’s almighty Shine back in the good old days. Abe’s trademark sleaze and wooden block give this a familiar yet original feel. Perfect to give the night a darker vibe.

Kate Bush – Running up the hill (Ashley Beedle edit)

Beautiful, deep and chugging edit of Kate Bush’s classic, running up the hill……No doubt some people will feel tackling Kate Bush is an edit too far, but to all the purists….this is really just a great way to fit her music into more conventional sets and to new audiences. To his credit Beedle has done a sterling job on the mix, teasing out the drums and some well placed effects add to the drama, and you can see this becoming an anthem over the christmas period. Dead limited, one sided 12″….

The Stone Roses – Waterfall (12 inch mix)

One of my favourite tunes of all time, this is an absolute classic. Here we’ve got the 12 inch mix that came with the original release, nothing more than some extra percussion and a beat added, but you wouldn’t want anymore. Apparently this is actually the work on a young Paul Oakenfold…who knows, or cares.

Perfect to drop at almost any night, will always go off. Enjoy.

Family Stand – Ghetto Heaven (Soul II Soul remix)

The Family Stand was an American R&B band, who were active in the early 1990s. The band members were also largely responsible for creating the songs on Paula Abdul’s album Spellbound.

Ghetto heaven was their biggest hit, back in 1990, with the Soul II Soul remix being the stand out track from the release, gaining plays in every club in the world!

Big 90’s ‘Baltimore’ style beats, matched with tasty analog synths (think Massive Attack/Moby) and an era defining vocal makes this a firm fav of mine at the moment.

Talking Heads – Psycho Killer (Greg Wilson edit)

Nice little edit of the new-wave classic ‘Psycho Killer’…….from a good while ago by Greg Wilson, fairly sympathetically done, with just a little bit of cow bell and some of the live recording crowds sweeping in and out, nice, rustic and much more dj friendly.

Amazing issue of Ozon dedicated to this track, check it here. They sum this track up a lot better than us :S

Manicured Noise – Metronome (Cousin Cole Remix)

bollards

This is where an original blueprint for Punk-Funk gets taken for a magic carpet ride through Manchester’s seminal club the Hacienda , to the 21C dancefloor of NYC where Cole and Pocketknife regularly rock the lofts of Brooklyn and beyond. Absolutely loving this remix of a track by early eighties Punk-Funkers Mancs Manicured Noise- rehauled disco style for the dancefloor by Cousin Cole of Brooklyn USA. Really messed up and unique, and progressively gets crazier! could see this being tanned across the board from the likes of Ricardo Villalobos to Tim Sweeney. The vinyl has a couple of other sweet remixes on it aswell so keep an eye open for it when its out at the end of November!

Cabo San Roque – Calypso 08 (Luciano Remix)

Haha, I haven’t  tired of this little summer samba remix from Luciano, light and refreshing, I heard him finish with it last year and it really went down a treat. For some reason the harpsichord part conjures up memories of the theme tune to ‘last of the summer wine’, dunno why, they arn’t even similar……

Erik Wikstrom – Autonoght (Julius remix)

Beautiful  little whimsical remix from Julius here that just meanders along, slowly building with it delicate keys and contrasting beefy bassline, this is nice end of the night tackle. enjoy.
