Kasper Bjørke has recorded episode 110 of our mixtape series. With his past releases on labels such as Eskimo, Corrsepondant, hfn music, we caught up with him to check what he has coming up next and to ask him a bit about the mix;

I have been working on setting up an audio visual exhibition, that consists of 11 screens showing 11 art films – each film with a composition from my forthcoming album on Kompakt as the soundtrack. The album is called The Fifty Eleven Project. The films are directed by visual artist, Justin Tyler Close. The album itself is a 11 track, 2 hour long ambient album – so quite a different direction, than what I would normally do. The size of the whole project has grown extremely, due to the exhibition aspect, but I am really excited about the whole thing. I am also very happy about the triple 180 gram transparent vinyl album (in a luxurious box including a poster) that will be released at the same time as with the digital album: https://KompaktRecords.lnk.to/TheFiftyElevenProjectAR

The mix was recorded in my studio in Copenhagen, there is not alot more to say about that really, haha… I did it quite spontaneously!

I had the inspiration and energy to do something a bit more uptempo than what I would normally do on a mixtape – maybe as a complete counterpoint to the album ? Recently I have been enjoying these approx. 130 bpm techno tracks, like Automated Lover by Schacke (released on Courtesy´s label Kulør) – and since I felt like including this particular track in mix, that gave me a different starting point somehow… so it is definitely a party mix and contains some of my recent favorite tracks for playing out, when I’m djing…

Up next…

After my album is released on October 19th and the exhibition has run here in Copenhagen for 10 days, then the plan is that the exhibition will travel to LA, NY, Berlin, London etc next year…

I also plan to start producing a new EP… I feel its time to work on something that doesnt take several years to prepare, produce and put out, which has been the case of The Fifty Eleven Project album…

This week we have London based DJ and producer Alex Warren aka Kiwi stepping up for mixtape #109. As usual, we asked a bit about the mix & what he’s been up to recently…

Well I’ve just come out of a 12 hour stint in Panorama Bar, so I’m a little hazy, but off the top of my head I’ve had a super fun summer touring, played some really special parties and had a lot of fun. The last few weeks, I’ve been trying to knuckle down in the studio making some new bits and I’ve done a few remixes that I’m super excited about, i through one of them in this mix, not sure its ready but felt right…

In my living room (south east london) I’ve built myself a really nice setup and there really is no place like home, i like to record all my mixes live, for me i don’t think it really translates well when people do them on a computer, i like to hear the mistakes.

I actually didn’t have much of an idea, i had a few beers, i started playing some slower bits warmed myself up,  i ended up playing for a couple of hours i think, but just trimmed the beginning off for you guys to get it down to a bitesize 1 hour. It includes a nice variety of bits, and has a good flow. <3

I have an EP on Correspondent coming soon which I’m super excited for and theres a 12” on CinCin with Joe Goddard on the flip. Theres a couple of other EPs signed for next year and I’m also launching a collabs label/party called Crossbreed, then theres a handful of remixes to come before the end of the year. And hopefully loads more gigs! <3

This week’s episode of the FMB mixtape series comes from Seb Wildblood, one of the driving forces behind South London’s much loved Church, also Coastal Haze and All My Thoughts. Along with a bit about the mix, we found out what he’s been up to lately…

I recently returned home from shows in the US and Colombia, most interestingly ‘Burning Man’ which was quite the experience… Now back home enjoying settling back into a routine, lots of dog walking and I also just bought a coffee machine which is pretty exciting. 

The mix was recorded in my home studio on CDJ’s and Technic 1210’s, it generally takes me a good few takes to record a mix I’m happy with however this one was done in one take, which is a first for me. 

I wanted this to be a true representation of what I’m playing out right now, generally, when I’m thinking about a mix I often fall into the same formula/structure, with this particular mix I wanted to get straight to business. I also have new music to share in the not so distant future so I’ve included some hints as to where I’m at production wise. There’s also a couple of label exclusives thrown in for good measure.

There’s a lot of music on the way, it’s been almost a year since my last SW record so I’m looking forward to getting some new stuff out there. There’s also a bunch to look out for on the labels with forthcoming material on the way from Ciel, Gnork, Julius Steinhoff and more.

Happy to welcome Tuff City Kids (Gerd Janson / Phillip Lauer) and Joe Goddard on board to our FMB mixtape series this week. As usual, we asked a bit about the mix and what they’ve been up to recently…

[TCK] Been touring quite a bit and managed to finished a new LP called ‘Power’ for Running Back.

[JG] Recently been making a Hot Chip album, eating Kleftiko in Cyprus, eurorack wormholes.

[TCK] We all threw in tracks and mixmaster Joe was the one to bake the cake in London. Basically our latest productions and tracks that caught our attention in the last few months

[JG] This mix was recorded on D’arblay st on the hallowed ground where Blackmarket stood. I tried to put together a bunch of new stuff that maybe somehow represents the sound of our new tune.

This week’s mix comes from Jordan – one half of The Night Institute, boss of his own Nocturne Music imprint + a regular on the AVA Festival lineup. As usual, we asked a bit about the mix & what he’s been up to lately…

I’m just back from my first visit to Asia last week; I played a few dates in Japan, including a festival at the foot of Mount Fuji – that was all a bit surreal.

The Summer has been pretty manic – in a good way. I’ve continued to run my weekly party, The Night Institute, with Timmy Stewart, which is into it’s third year now and probably the strongest it’s ever been. On top of that, I’ve been playing lots of Irish Festivals, did a great party in London and recorded my first Solid Steel mix too – all in all, a busy summer.

I’ve been really focused on studio work though; taking weekly piano lessons, trying to make it more of a routine. That’s where my head is at now.

I started preparing tracks that I thought would be suitable for a mix for the Bicep blog while I was away for the last two weeks. Japan is a very late night, neon city, so I was finding myself drawn to synth music and chuggers. I wasn’t awake during the day very much. I had a lot of time to myself with the travelling so started piecing a rough arrangement together in Ableton once I got to Madrid Airport, then finished it in my little studio room once I got home.
The goal was to put together a club-focused mix that you can also listen to in the house or in the car. I’ve tried drawing together some of the sounds I find myself going to on a Saturday night with our all-night-long sets at The Night Institute. I tried to create a level of consistency without it sounding like an hour of the same. There’s music by Red Axes, Special Request, Raudive, Blackstrobe, DeeWee records, and an Irish lad called Opus Klein who’s gonna do big things.

I’ve got a release on Abandon Silence coming out in October. I’m also playing their party with Palms Trax & MCDE. I’ve a remix out on Future Disco next week too, as well as parties in Copenhagen, Edinburgh & Dublin. I’m also working on some music for Huntleys & Palmers, which we’re taking our time on, and then hopefully playing as many interesting new parties as possible.
