Miss Kitten – Requiem for a hit (Abe Duque remix)

Slimey acid madness here in the form of Abe Duque’s classic remix of Miss Kitten’s classic – Requiem for a hit. I remember hearing this every week in the bar of Belfast’s almighty Shine back in the good old days. Abe’s trademark sleaze and wooden block give this a familiar yet original feel. Perfect to give the night a darker vibe.

M – Pop Muzik (Todd Terje Edit)

We played the original of this tune in our 80s mix a couple of weeks ago, here is an unbelievable acid-disco edit of it courtesy of the edit king himself… I never really got the term ‘acid-disco‘ when people referred that bland electro style shit, for me you need some sort of 303 sound are its not really acid-y enough..sorry we are a bit late on this one, a huge 13 track remix package released in September to celebrate the tune’s 30th anniversary.

Brennan Green – Behind the Ocean

0_23b20_b77b2bb3_XL

Behind The Ocean’ is a acid meltdown ala Chicago Trax 1989 but with a new school NY twist. With live rhodes touches and deep chord structures the acid keeps groovin. Unlike a lot of acid this isn’t whimsy and it packs a tonne of cowbell. Its featured on Daniel Wang’s massive ‘The Balihu Years’ compilation CD released in September this year.

Da Posse – In The Heat of The Night (Acid Mix)

jess_hera_small

“Here’s another nice acid tune with a female vocal, this time the vocalist is singing (in a totally different key to the 303) about… you guessed it, acid house. Da Posse was a group of four people including Maurice and Hula, both of whom released some serious solo jams. “In The Heat Of The Night” features a few different contrasting acid lines, and the drums are enhanced with some nice TR727 latin percussion sounds, and it’s their best acid track, although “Searchin’ Hard” comes a reasonably close second. They also did a few non-acid house tracks that are great as well as some terribly misguided attempts at RnB pop vocals”…Thanks Fact Mag for this review, saved me some time there!

Maurice- This is acid

fingerplayermain

Just seen a guy walking up the street with the old, Can you jack? Tshirt…seems like jack is definitely on the come-back. This quality smooth acid continues to sound fresh, and still forms the sound of the underground 20 years after it was made!

Hercules & Love Affair- Blind (Serge Santiago Unreleased Chiago edit)

A more jacking version to the one that was eventually released on DFA, both awesome remixes I could see why it was hard to choose between them. This one was on his myspace for ages so you may still recognise it.

adonis- no way back (greg wilson edit)

This is the first of a couple of edits Greg sent us… Much like the original the tune maintains it chiago jack but also manages to maintain a grove…dark acidic spacey! not to be missed.

DJ Pierre – I've Lost Control (WildPitch Mix)

Back in the day when acid was just a tab, DJ Pierre was holed up in his Chicago bedroom inventing a sound that would impact the music scene forever.

In 1986, the infancy of ‘acid house’ was spawned when DJ Pierre picked up a Roland 303 and created ‘Acid Trax’, released on Trax Records under his Phuture moniker: Acid. He went on to record many of the early Acid House releases on Trax Records under the names Phuture, Phuture Pfantasy Club, Pierre’s Pfantasy Club (with Felix Da Housecat) and Phortune, including the release ‘Your Only Friend’ still a key player today. DJ Pierre has also released on labels including Strictly Rhythm (where he was also A&R for a time), Jive, Emotive, Nervous, Twisted, Ovum, King Street (including his debut mix CD ‘The Afro Acid Project’) his own Afro Acid Plastik imprint, and more.

Now DJ Pierre gets Gigolo with DJ Hell. ‘I’ve Lost Control’ (an ode the Sleazy B / Marshall Jefferson Trax Records release) is already receiving support and props from DJs including Laurent Garnier, Ame, Radio Slave, Phonique, Shinedoe, D’Julz, Alex Smoke and more. The original WildPiTcHMix mix is heavy analogue designed for only the loudest speakers.. The ‘I’ve Lost Control’ Spastic Meltdown mix is reminiscent of… guess…

Depeche Mode- Enjoy the slience (Ewan Pearson mix)

Whats with all these remixes in the last few years? is any tune safe from the remix hammer? Obviously some remixes are brilliant, others are not- I eventully blocked out the memory from a remix of “joy division – love will tear us apart”, so I wont speak of it again.

If I had one tune that I could save from the remix I Would have said “Enjoy the Silence” … the vocals and synths are so epic that it would sound out of place on any other. Lucky enough Ewan pearson is on hand, he seems to use his midas touch and managing to somehow turn this Anthem into an acid house banger!!
