Bob Salton – Starknight

Out on Blood records in 82′, as the title suggests its a dark affair on the italo underground. A track that get almost too much play on the Bicep player, anything that has a dark analoge disco vibe and lyrics that dont make any sense to us is pretty much ok…. Not to mention synth solos, how I miss them.

Dorothys Fortress – Kill Django Kill

The Basterd is back with another sick package. Kill Django Kill EP drops at the end of March and here are a couple of tunes that drop on the record. Trade mark Italo esque arpeggiation and 707/808 drum machine madness is what we have come to expect from Dorothys Fortress over the last 2 releases and this 5 tracker delivers on all fronts. Don’t shun Django he will make you pay!

Digital Emotion – Go go yellow screen

Real little italo gem here, have built up a big folder of italo stuff to edit/ put in a mix over the past 6/5 months…., but I thought I’d put the odd one up here first, (i’m keeping the my favourites for this mix)….. Like most italo, there’s a fine balance of utter shite and flashes of synthetic brilliance, and ideally most of it needs a good editing to even begin to sound palatable……However, this one manages to sound the business, although I would love to cut it to bits at some stage. Could be awesome!

Love Dub – 4-You (?)

Every so often a tune ends up on my hard drive and I have no idea where it came from. This track is a perfect example. Apparently, its by some band called ‘4-You’, though I can’t find anything about them online. In fact, it could even be just the start of a track. Whatever, its still an amazing bit of high enery Italo.

Kano

Kano are obviously heroes for us, amazing name, and classic tracks. Full on italo synth robots.

We’ve posted a couple of the greatests but thought we share some other nice little treats. From full on camp and happy sounds of ‘Ahjia’, to the darker head moving sounds of ‘Its a war’ (Im  quite surrprised we havent posted that yet) with its well crafted selection of synth action. Santiago’s edit of ‘its a war’ is pretty good to, but the original has got more feeling to it. These two both appeared on the Its a War record in 1980.

Also included is the emotional italo journey that is ‘China Star’, which was on the ‘Another Life’ LP in 1983.

Great listening, great dancing

Patrick Cowley – Menergy (The ballad of Gay Tony)

Most of you will probably recognise this bumming beat from GTA IV  ”Ballad of Gay Tony”…..I’m not really a fan of this track,…but I dig the 1980’s Biology video-esque intro and thought i’d share it.

Enjoy this horrid homo-slice of 80s analog perversion.

Betty Botox – Xantac

Killer edit of  ’Clan of xymox’ track A day from the championed glasgow local Betty Botox, one half of the mighty Optimo duo. Big industrial grimey opening which drop into a totally awesome cosmic italo synth line, top stuff, and thankfully removes the fucking awful vocal from the original. This has just been released on Botox’s G4 faggot edit’s album, which you can pick up at Juno. Well worth checking out. Preview only.

Paul Parker – Right on Target

Outrageously camp jacking Hi NRG flavoured Disco from back in 1982. This appears to have been quite a big influence for tracks like Den Haan’s ‘Nightshift’

This track was actually produced by the legendary Patrick Cowley in collaboration with Parker, who coincidently shares both the 2nd name and giant ‘San-Fran Tash’ with the late Dennis Parker.

Great cowbell’s and relentlessly hissing hi hats assure that this is in keeping with plenty of  your peak time tackle. Enjoy, with a cocktail.

Amin Peck – Running Straight

R-235401-1148473491

Hands up who likes Italo of the disco kind! these guys defiantly have the sleaze factor and their synths pack more meat than those Turkish Kebab shops in Dalston *girthy doners*. Come on the guy on the left has been heavily inspired by Daniel-Son-Karate Kid and the right guy clearly stole Eddie Murphy’s haircut…All in all Amin Peck are win win.

R.I.P Dissident Records

CS314531-01A-BIG

“In its short lifespan, UK-based Dissident Records has developed a reputation for being elusive. Each limited-run release is shipped with little fanfare, on one-sided vinyl. Oh, and good luck finding the label on the internet—there’s no homepage, and a MySpace search will lead you only to a similarly-christened black metal operation. But the whole low-profile thing shouldn’t be taken as some kind of militant, off-the-grid posture: “We just hate the idea of joining in with the fake bullshit, ‘my new record’s the best thing ever and our label rules’ world,” says label owner Andy Blake. “It’s so crass and dishonest and not even a fun game to play anymore. We’ll talk to whoever wants to talk to us, we just don’t go chasing it.” Resident Advisor

Over the past 2 and a bit years Dissident has cranked out over 60 releases but still maintained the highest standard of quality control. Some of my personal favourites like “The Niallist – The Hots” or “Muravchix- Replicant’s Lament” probably wouldn’t have seen the light of day if it wasn’t for these guys. For me I love the concept behind the label and it converted me back from allure of the ’serato’ digital revolution, back to buying vinyl. With the awesome old school branding and design/ limited run you always thought you were part of something special, and actually getting what you paid for. Dissident has taken A&R to a new high, and their stylistic aesthetic approach to music will not be forgotten here.

Here is a mix from Andy Blake on Cool in the Pool, nice interview over there too.

Dharma – Plastic Doll (instrumental)

Some great deep and rather melancholic at times, italo here from Dharma, the original is shite as with many of these little gems, but the instrumental is accidently brilliant, just wait for those analog keys to come in!

Gesaffelstein – The Operator

tn1wdoYz3hoistdogl76TgV2o1_500

“The Operator” is Released on Zone records, “purveyors of the finest cybernetic euro-pop, Parisian gentleman Gesaffelstein creates glacial slabs of impeccable ice-cold electronic noise that seem to emanate so naturally out of the wired brains of immaculately coiffured men who dream of nightimes spent prowling through cold, industrial cityscapes dressed up like Roxy Music gigolo-bots, to end up regularly congregating with likeminded replicants in dankly lit, underground dancehalls haunted by the ghosts of Kraftwerk and DAF, peering nonchalantly through vapor mists for pale faced women with sharp midnight lipstick lips and that familiar melancholy look in the eyes”, I couldn’t have put it better myself!

This track is great italo-esque electronic monster, supported by the likes of Hell, Miss Kitten and Garnier and you can see why!
