This week’s mix comes from Duncan MacDonald, resident of The Villa in Oslo. As usual, we asked a bit about the mix and what he’s been up to lately.

So recently I’ve just been trying to get as many tunes made as possible and running a night at The Villa Oslo, also trying to play as many gigs as I can!

The mix was recorded in the basement at Jaeger here in Oslo on 2 technics and 2 cdjs. Massive thanks to Jaeger for giving me the opportunity to record down there!

It started of with me just trying to get some spotlight on my original tunes but it warped into something a bit more reflective, in particular relation to a night in November last year, and I’d like to dedicated this mix to Henry McDermott and the McDermott family in Roscommon.

Next up I’m warming up for Fiedel at the Villa here in Oslo on June 29, before heading to Berlin where I’ll be playing at Golden Gate on July 13 then to Somewhere In The Distance festival on the 15th!

This week on the podcast series is episode 98, aka Raw Silk, aka Grace and Steph. We caught up with them to ask a little more about what they’ve been up to and about the mixtape…

We played at your afterparty in Camden after seeing the Bicep live show at the Roundhouse. Wow what an incredible show and fun party, those mind-melting visuals…! We spent our sunny May Bank holiday playing at the Percolate Queens Yard Summer party and the Field Day launch event in Shoreditch.

We locked ourselves in Steph’s cave/bedroom for a few days (pissing off her housemates) using her technics, and borrowed CDJs from the BBE Record store where Grace works.

Taking our name from an 80’s disco group, people may assume that’s all we’re going to play. We wanted to steer away from that but still wanted to keep our mix light hearted and fun, similar to our DJ style we hope. We’ve included tracks from friends’ labels and used artists that we really love and inspired us to start collecting and djing…Of course we couldn’t help ourselves and finished on a filthy, Italo-disco banger – a bit of a Marmite track but we love Marmite…

Up next…

This weekend actually marks the one year anniversary of us djing together as RAW SILK. We’re lucky to have a very busy summer ahead, so we’ve decided to keep the birthday party low key. We’ll be doing what we do best – slanging on records at our local Peckham pub, the Gowlett this Friday.

This week’s mix we invited HAAi, fresh from playing at Birmingham’s Boxxed for our live show a few weeks ago. First up, we found out what she’s been up to recently…

I’ve been playing a lot thru Europe and the uk. Also been in the studio non stop when I’m home. I have just finished my first ep and a couple of remixes that I’m looking forward to getting out. Also have just finalised my dream line up for this year’s coconut beats parties that I can’t wait to announce.

This was recorded at my old home of rinse fm just using cjds and a good old pioneer mixer.

It’s a mix of some of my own tunes and tracks friends have sent me, as well as some tunes that have influenced the ep.

For this week’s mix, we’re joined by NZ based Speed Boat, aka Eden Burns, who is also one half of the Feel My Bicep signed duo Sandboards. First up, we asked he’s been up to lately…

I am moving to Melbourne very soon so I have been getting ready for that! 

At the moment I don’t have the best DJ kit available so this mix was recorded using Traktor.

It’s pretty much just a club mix full with favourites of mine, there is some new stuff from myself and friends in there too.

I guess the mix has a pretty good summer buzz to it lol.

I have a bunch of new music out this year, hopefully play a lot more gigs! I would really like to put together a live set when I get settled down in Melbourne too.
