Already at number 10 in the mixtape series, and next we have France’s finest Tomska… After more than 15 years, Tomska has kept his refined influence over the electronic music scene in France. Some killer releases over the last few years on the likes of Abstract Cuts, Saft and Courtesy of Balance, grabbed our attention at an early stage and we have been big fans since. He also A&R on Parisian label Vibes And Pepper Records…which has put out some quality releases over the last few years.  We caught up with Tomska to ask a bit about the mix and whats up next…

“I’ve been busy with many things actually: DJing, studio recording…trying to prepare the next Abstract Cuts releases ! I’ve also been working on future Vibes and Pepper projects, the next one will be a very limited repress of Terrence Parket & Claude Young (originally released in 2011). It will be out on july + more to come…

I’m very happy to be back in Strasbourg on June 13th. It will be my first time at Mudd Club for a party called “Sucre Lent” and the next day i’m attending at Rennes for the Bre.Tone garden party. There are a lot more European gigs yet to come plus the first Abstract Cuts label night before the end of this year… I really can’t wait !

This mix has been recorded during a friends private party based in north of France. It’s been recorded out of a two Technics sl 1210s + Rodec original mixer from early 90’s. It’s a basic setup, but I must tell it’s my favourite haha. The mix features house classics and some sought after records I play basically for a long dj set… Sometimes groovy, sometimes hypnotic…it’s a mixture of all these different sounds that I love and I try to spread in my own music ! I Hope people will enjoy it !!”

FMB MIXTAPE 09 | WOUTER S

We first caught Wouter in his home environment in Utrecht Holland. He impressed us with his unique blend of UK garage and heavy hitting house style, which the crowd went nuts for. A few years latter and great releases on the likes of DJ Haus’ Hot Haus Records and here we are with a mix finally from the man. We caught up with him to check what how he has been spending his time and a little bit about the mix…

“Recently I’ve been very busy with some of my own events and a lot of gigs. The mix was recorded in a new club in Utrecht called “BASIS”. The club is quite new and I’ve got to give Jorn, Joost and Chris a shout-out for letting me use their equipment while they were waiting after business hours for me to finish it. When I met the Bicep boys I was doing a 3-hour warm up at the Club Poema in Utrecht before they were going to start. I played a lot of powerful house joints and as far as I remember (it was a rough night ;) ) they really loved it. For this mix I decided not to go full on power but build it up a little. I start with a few UK Garage kind of vibe, which eventually builds up to my more actual kind of sound. I’m satisfied with the mix, didn’t overuse effects as I usually do which made it an extra challenge.

Up next I’ve got a pretty busy summer ahead of me containing a lot of nice festivals and club shows which I could’ve never dreamt of when I started playing a few years ago. Since I was a very busy promoter I decided to drop a few of my concepts so I can focus myself more on studio time. For now I can’t tell a lot regarding releases. But it’s going to be busy in the next few months !”

FMB MIXTAPE 08 | EBONY

Tornoto new-boys on the block Ebony are up next. For those that may have missed it collab-ed with these guys last year for our release Love Myself, you can pick up on a free download HERE. Ebony have been slowly  and carefully building their repertoire of tracks and this mix unveils a few of their gems they have been keeping close to their chest, expect big things over the next year from this duo… We caught up with the guys to ask them what they are up to at the minute and a bit about the mix.

“We are just finishing up and creating new tracks when we can, so far we’ve built up quite a catalogue. The mix was recorded on CDJ’s while at a cottage in Buffalo, which might be reflective in the direction we went with this mix (sunshine vibes to midnight tribes). It’s full of a bunch of our own tracks we’ve been working on, and some tracks new and old we’ve been in to lately… We have a busy summer ahead of us – polishing up an ep, a self vinyl release, and a music video in the works”

FMB MIXTAPE 07 | HARVEY SUTHERLAND

Next up on the FMB Mixtape Series we have one of Australia’s finest, Harvey Sutherland. Last year he grabbed our attention with huge releases on Echovolt and Voyage records, showing his unique blend of jazz and house. If you havn’t checked his stuff we highly advise doing so. We caught up with him after the mix to see what he’s been up to recently and to ask a bit about the mix;

“I’ve been writing and recording new bits for the live show, developing some sketches for a new record, IRL job, post-grad study, playing in a band, thinking about getting a cat. The mix was recorded very shoddily, at home. It’s a bit of a thrown together affair, a sonic “mood board” for my latest 12”. The stuff I’ve been listening to recently, and just classic tunes I’ve always played a lot. Mix references and aspirational jazz funk.”

Next up for Harvey is his first international tour – a whirlwind trip to EU. Live shows, and a bit of DJing. You can check out the full list of dates at the bottom.

FMB MIXTAPE 06 | ROTHMANS

Next up on the FMB mixtape series is an old pawl Ant who runs the Rotham’s label straight outta’ Liverpool! Channeling weirdo italo and synth, fans of the likes of Brassica, Ali Renault and Tusk wax will know doubt know and love the label! The recent Brassica remix of Aimes has been a huge tune for us since Christmas! Really excited to have Ant onboard, here’s a few words from the lad himself!

“Been living in LA for the last few months producing an album and DJing around California, promoting parties etc. been out here a few times last couple of years, its becoming somewhat Rothmans spiritual home!”

“Shat it out on a pair of 1200’s like a boss, hence the dodgy mixing, apart from the last tune which is not pressed yet so i kind of just glued it on the end.”

“Its pretty much all unreleased stuff from Rothmans and a few of our friends, Tusk, COF, Belly Dance UK etc etc, a kind of sounds of 2015 according to Rothmans I suppose. Flying straight from LA to Amsterdam for my best mates stag do, gonna be horrible!! Then back in the UK for a bit, playing with my first ALFOS in a few weeks with the gouverner himself!! looking forward to that  then our first trip to Japan in Sep.”
