Buzzin’ to have our friend Andy Buchan onboard! As you may know from previous posts Andy is an old friend from out in Dubai and showed us lots of support when we first started out on the blog, so it’s an honour to have him step up and do a mix many years on!
Expect a super eclectic mix of party bangers. Here’s a few words from Andy himself:

“It’s been a busy month as I’ve got 4 tracks out at the moment – a nu-disco track on Dear Deer’s latest compilation, and also an acid nu-disco roller on Dubai’s first dance music album Ma’ana, out on Bootleg Social. I’ve also got a tech-house track out on Beirut’s VL Records, and my homage to Orbital (‘U&Me’) out on KZ Records. I’m also bringing my club night Loaded back in August – funnily enough, Matt used to DJ with me in Dubai at my disco/house night, and designed the first Loaded artwork! Loaded is a proper open-minded and fun indie night, everything from Jamie xx to The Jam, Jurassic 5 to Julio Bashmore.

It’s essentially a 3 hour set condensed into 75 minutes, but there’s hopefully still a nice flow to it, with some crate digging tunes and some serious dancefloor damagers. There’s a definite acid theme bubbling away throughout. I wanted a spread of BPMs and mix some classics amongst some newer tracks, and one of mine in ‘Sunspots.’

I’ve got a deep, broken beat house track coming out on BoxLogic in the near future, and I’m also working on a collaboration with Thrill from LA, who’s a rising US house star – he’s done the vocals over a proper old skool rave tune that’s seriously cheesy and fun. I’m also re-building my Soundcloud after they took it down for my 3rd strike – all 350,000 plus plays and 80 tracks, ouch. Back up now here if you want to keep up to date.

FMB MIXTAPE 14 | STUDIO 89

Buzzin’ to have our good friends David, Ben and Nick join us at XOYO, hosting their legendary Studio 89 party! Originally based in Cardiff they would put on nights to just under 100 people in a hand built wooden basement club with the likes of Prosumer doing magically all night long sets. The vibe was special, unbeatable infact and now they’ve relocated to London and expanded massively.

We caught up with Ben to ask him what’s been happening…

We had a stage at Gottwood last month which was great, then I played at Glasto a couple of times for the block 9 crew, then onto the annual trip to garden which never fails and just finished that. Other than that just being a total idiot as normal and going about my daily stalking of andy, sorry matt.

The mix was recorded at my home in Bristol, all vinyl and at about 2am in the morning. I had had a bottle of malbec and felt like a mix, put the recorder on and this happened. Its a combo of old proper deep house records i love, some new balearic stuff that has just come out and some classic italo records that i hold dear to my heart.

We have a very exciting summer/autumn with studio 89, we are hosting room 2 at the Bicep residency with Marcel Vogel on July 18th, then an exhibition at simple things festival in bristol in October where we will be exhibiting all the artwork from this year that we have created on large A1 acetate lightboxes, it’s all pop art themed and we are selling framed prints on our website. We are also hosting a stage there which we do every year with an amazing lineup of friends. On top of that we have 3 events in london, one at Dance Tunnel on Sept 4th and 2 at The Colombian where we do most of our events and a couple of other bits and bobs here and there aswell.

FMB MIXTAPE 13 | BRONTOSAURUS JUNIOR CLUB

Next up we have Brontosaurus Junior Club, AKA Jacob Lauer and Timo Wiegand. We first met the guys a few years back at Robert Jonson, one of our favourite clubs which they happen to be regulars at. First time we heard the guys play we were blown away by the eclectic selection and how the crowd just went with it, loving every bit. Something we love about that place is definitely due to the group of residents there who really set the tone properly and have educated the crowd over the years.

We caught up with the guys ahead of their appearance at our XOYO residency to ask them a few questions about the mix, what they are up to now and what lies in the future for the pair. Tickets for the XOYO show are still available HERE.

“We try to maintain a productive and visible part of the Frankfurt scene around our home base Robert Johnson. Besides that Jacob is working a lot with his brother to convert a hotel into music as one part of their project Hotel Lauer. Timo pursues what he is best in. Finding and buying records and show them to everybody who asks kindly.

The mix was was recorded in a living room in Frankfurt am Main. We used two turntables, two CDJs, one mixer and one Bembel of homemade Apfelwein, wich is the traditional Frankfurt way for getting things going.

The idea behind was to select unreleased, released and older music we both like to play out and boil this variety of styles down to an one-hour DJ-mix that displays were Brontosaurus Junior Club-nights usually start, were they could pass and possibly end.

up next.. “We are going to play as a part of the Bicep residency at XOYO. Later in July we will be back at Robert Johnson to host our regular night, this time with DJ Sotofett of the unswerving Sex Tags Mania / Wania fame. The rest of this summer will be a balanced blend between amateur DJing and highly professional vacationing. “

FMB MIXTAPE 12 | LUVLESS

We’ve been huge huge fans of Rose records ever since then sent us an early promo of their first release and have always loved their melodic take on re-edits and nu-disco.

We’re over to moon to bring you a mix from one of the label’s stars, Luvless, who’s tracks we’ve been rinsing lots over the past few years. Before you check the mix, here’s a few words from the man himself about the mix, what he’s been up too and also got coming up…

Music-wise i recently finished several originals for labels like Razor-n-Tape, Deso and Diggin Disco Deep which will be available soon. I also did a couple of remixes for Sasse&Maurice Aymard, Jan Ketel and Pools. On my own label Rose Records, which i run with Martin Hayes and M.ono, we have two new records scheduled. Really looking forward to both of these. We teamed up with Oye Records for all future things distribution. Rose is very happy to be a part of this lovely family.

I fiddle around on tracks with Martin Hayes and M.ono at the moment. New projects for Fina and Long Weekend Records are also on the list. Besides i am planning fam-holidays and goin to the gym, doin some serious workouts as well. Actually i can benchpress something around 80Kg :)

I have recorded the mix in my living room, playing around with the Urei Rotary and my Bozak Isolator. It is always fun and often makes we wish i could turn up the volume just a little more.

I normally don´t think too much about my mixes in the first place. My current mood defines the tracks i choose or i have a certain track in mind i wanna start with and the rest goes with the flow. As usual i wanna include some unreleased stuff as well as all time favs and tracks i feel right now to create an organic flow with some ups and downs. This one´s actually a bit slower, but in the club i go a bit more uptempo at the moment.

My family is the most influential and important thing in my life. My „Turning Points E.P.“ on Rose Records and the „Part Of Me E.P.“ on Sleazy Beats, was created around these feelings i had once my daughter was born and the exciting time during pregnancy. They are my heart and it´s so great to spent time with them and some friends, talking about music and all other stuff while we have a great coffee or good food.

It was big fun to record the mix for our bicep lads and the radio show listeners. I hope you dig it.

Up next we have a mix from pioneers of the electronic music scene, The Orb. It’s hard to know where to start, but from our side we have been huge fans of these guys for years. With a new album coming up on Kompakt and a huge live tour it’s safe to say these guys are back. The mix is highly eclectic as you would expect, we caught up with Alex to ask a few questions about it and whats on the horizon…

“Recently I’ve been dog sitting and touring in The States, Belgium & France. The mix was recorded on a stage in Denver Colorado using pioneer gear & a recordable player. It’s a trip towards another moon being built to order, with 1 huge bass end & a Blake 7-meets-King Tubby intro with a new bark from Ruby da AM on Perpetual Towers.

Up next, more touring & aiming to get back in the studio with Thomas & then Youth, scoring for a road movie film. Some of that music appears as roughs on this very mix! Yodels over snore wood.”
